Pirelli Broadband Solutions wins 2007 InfoVision Award

The Company's Wi-Fi/GSM Phone recognized by industry as a top product in the Broadband Appliances, Devices and Home Networking category

Milan, 17 October 2007 - Pirelli Broadband Solutions, the broadband access and photonics company within the Pirelli Group, announces that its dual-mode phone has been selected by members of the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) and leaders in the  Telecommunications industry as an InfoVision Awards winner in the Broadband Appliances, Devices and Home Networking category at the Broadband World Forum Europe conference and exhibition, held last week in Berlin.

The InfoVision Award program recognizes corporations and individuals for pioneering developments in technologies, applications, products, advances, and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial in the telecommunications industry.

"This year's InfoVision Award winners can be proud that their success has come at a time when Broadband development is at its peak around the world and when competition to be an award winner has never been higher," said Tom Costello, IEC Vice President of Conference Development.  "We'd like to congratulate Pirelli Broadband Solutions for its WiFi/GSM phone, chosen for this highly-competitive, prestigious Award."

"The important award received at Broadband World Forum Europe recognizes the innovative work we are getting," said Corrado Rocca, senior vice president, Product Marketing and Development - Access Products for Pirelli Broadband Solutions. "Our dual-mode portfolio builds on our expertise and success gained from several earlier deployments of SIP-based wireless solutions."

The Pirelli Discus™ Dual Mode Phone DP-L10, based on Wi-Fi and SIP-based VoIP, is designed for Telco-managed services and one of the first devices to address the low-to-middle price range segment. The device functions as a telephone handset in both Wi-Fi and GSM modes.  With the Pirelli phone, end customers can make regular mobile phone calls using a SIM card or VoIP phones calls via a Wi-Fi subscription.  Features such as messaging, e-mail, and WAP browsing are also enabled via GSM and WiFi. Its most distinguishing feature is Pirelli's proprietary software which enables carrier-class services with seamless access point roaming, zero-touch registration, remote management/provisioning, and extended battery life. To date, Pirelli has more than 30 customers worldwide of the DP-L10 including Telcos, ISPs, VoIP service providers, and small-to-medium businesses.
